Confederate Memorial Carving on the Mountain

The Confederate Memorial Carving is the world's largest high relief sculpture and portrays three Confederate Civil War Heroes - President Jefferson Davis, General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. Towering 400 feet above the ground, the carving covers three-acres, and is recessed 42 feet into the mountain. The carving was originally begun in 1923 and was finally completed in 1972.

Parking, Directions & Public Transportation

Stone Mountain Park is located just 15 miles east of downtown Atlanta on US Highway 78. Take exit 39 B off Interstate 285 and follow Highway 78 east for 8 miles. Enter at the main entrance off exit 8. The center attractions area is situated at 1000 Robert E. Lee Drive in Stone Mountain, GA. One day parking passes are available at the park for $10 Pass (14 Passenger or less Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles) and $20 (Vehicles with 15 or more passengers). Atlanta's public transportation, MARTA, only provides transportation to the city of Stone Mountain, located about ½ mile from the Park's West Gate.
